Päijät-Häme, Finland
From the tower you can see the lakes and forests of the area. You can also enjoy beautiful lake views from the top of the hill without having to climb up the tower.
The information board at the top of the hill gives the following information:
“Kapatuosia hillfort The earliest prehistorical finds from the Kapatuosia hillfort are dated to Stone Age, ca. 6000 BC. At that time the settlement was an island. During the archaeological excavations at the end of 1990s plenty of quartz artefacts and flakes and burnt bone were found. Elk and beaver were among the hunted animals.
At the end of Iron Age - 1000 years ago - Kapatuosia was most probably used as a rescue place. Some buildings made of logs were built at the top of the hill. No evidence of a wooden palicade has been found. But a hoard of over 300 pieces of silver coins and silver and metal artefacts was found in the 1960s.
The flat top of the hill is a natural geological formation.”
